SVCDC Recap

Author:

The day after the 2015 year began, our DECA members were already making this year count at California’s first district conference of the year, the Silicon Valley Career Development Conference. Taking place from January 2nd to 4th, the conference included over 930 student members who gathered at the San Jose Marriott to start off the competitive season.

Competitions began Saturday morning at 8:45 AM, and lasted until 4:00 PM. The hotel and convention center facilities were packed with students competing in both roleplay and written events. The conference closed on Sunday with the awards ceremony and the announcement of the 2015-2016 Silicon Valley District Action Team. Having campaigned throughout the conference, the new team will officially take office after the State Conference.

We had numerous guests at the event, such as our California DECA’s State Advisor, Michelle Oliveira. Members of the East Side Union High School district’s Board of Trustees also visited the conference, and were thoroughly impressed by both the members themselves and the scale of the event. The conference was an amazing way to start off the year, and we look forward to seeing all of the members again at State!
