Competition Season is Back!

Author: California DECA

It’s finally time! After months of waiting, it is time to start preparing for your competitions. With several different events to choose from, here is a look at what is new for DECA competitions this year!
Personal Financial Literacy Category: DECA has added a Personal Financial Literacy Category, complementing the existing marketing, finance, hospitality, business administration, and entrepreneurship categories. This cluster features the Personal Financial Literacy Event, Virtual Business–Personal Finance, and the Financial Literacy Promotion Plan. These events are an excellent way to display your knowledge of how to balance your own personal finance!
Marketing Management/Communications: This year, the Marketing Communications Team Decision Making Event and the Marketing Management Series are switching roles. Marketing Management Series is now Marketing Management Team Decision Making and Marketing Communications TDM is now Marketing Communications Series. If either of these have been your event in the past, and you would like to continue, make sure to read the updated guidelines on these events.
Updated Performance Indicators: As is usual for DECA events, new performance indicators have been added this year. This is so that DECA can continue developing the 21st Century Skills that are so imperative for our future success. There are now more performance indicators based on social media, and some clusters have been updated to resemble recent industry changes. Make sure to visit DECA’s website to download the latest list of performance indicators.
Hopefully, these updates have stimulated your excitement for preparation, as the first California DECA competitions are only three months away! Remember to start preparing now, so that you can have the best shot of making it all the way this year – to ICDC in Anaheim, California! Best of luck in all of your competitions. We hope to see you on stage!
