This month, your California DECA State Officers gathered in the lovely city of Sacramento for a strategic planning retreat. In Sacramento, home to the state Capitol, Team 67 met with legislators to advance the future of CTE, met with the California DECA Board of Directors, and planned their Program of Leadership for the new year ahead.

In the name of CTE advocacy, the team visited the offices of Senator Bob Wieckowski and Assemblyman Patrick O’Donnell to discuss the importance of CTE and CTSOs like DECA to California’s growing education system. In addition to promoting CTE, the State Officer Team advocated for AB 445, a bill that would have extended and increased funding for CTE classes in California’s high schools by $1 billion.

Team 67 also meet with the California DECA Board of Directors during their meeting. Officers had lunch with the board members and presented the overall results of ICDC, as well as the plans for the state association in the new year. Ideas and plans were discussed on how to improve California DECA and how to make the next state conference better than ever.

While together, the officers also brainstormed ideas and plans for their Program of Leadership during their term and began work on their projects for the year. Overall, the State Officer Team is looking forward to a limitless year ahead.
